Hello from Ed-KC8MCC-who is the new Saturday night net control.
"Saturday Night Live Ed" (thanks Beaver Bill) has been interested in radios ever since he got his hands on his first set of walkie-talkies (those cheap little ones with the spring antenna). But around 1995, schoolmate for 7th and 8th grade and still close friend Paul-KG8WI-invited Ed over to his house where Ed was introduced to amateur radio. Ed was astounded at the capabilities of Paul's radios, especially the Kenwood TS-520s. Paul stated that that radio's communication range had the ability of going worldwide. Besides talking to other countries, Paul also chatted with a group of amateurs in the regions of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and sometimes beyond, known as the Wolverine Net. Every time Ed went over to Paul's house, he could hear the Wolverine Net come on around 7 pm. Ed decided that he wanted to become licensed and start his own amateur radio station. He started out with a Radio Shack HTX-202 and a Yaesu FT-840 and became licensed in March of 1999, at the class of Technician-No Code. After high school, Ed worked six years as a substitute rural carrier for the Postal Service, and, realizing that no permanent job would be opening up soon, decided to go to college to pursue a career in pharmacy, in which he is currently enrolled at KVCC, completing the pre-pharmacy requirements. Ed upgraded to General after listening to the Gordon West theory CD's while delivering mail. He then decided to purchase his own Kenwood TS 520. He became an official member of the Wolverine Net December 7, 2007, and has been a member of the Branch County Armature Radio Club since 2000. He and his wife Amanda were married in 2008, and they are expecting their first child around mid-November 2008. Ed and Amanda reside in Mendon, MI, where Ed has always lived. Ed enjoys camping, bike-riding, building antennas, studying history (primarily Michigan, local towns, WW I, and WW II), and assisting on his family's farm when he gets a chance.
Thanks for your participation and efforts on the net, Ed.
